How to import .dat file to Window Movie Maker 2.1

Hi! I am newbie. Hope someone can help me with this problem. I want to use
clips from vcd in WMM 2.1 but it won't allow .dat file. I heard that WMM 1.1
will import .dat file. How come WMM 2 will not import .dat file...I thought
it's supposed to be better! Is there anyway to get .dat file into WMM 2.1?
Please help? Thanks in advance.
 
You can use Windows Media Encoder to convert .dat file to .wmv format
