Hi All
After installing Service Pack 2, I have had a Security Center Icon in my
systems tray and I would really like to get rid of it. Has anyone out there
figured out how to do this yet?

Generally, the security center icon doesn't appear in the system tray unless
it wants to be fed. So open it and see what it wants. It probably wants you
to turn on your firewall, automatic updates, or antivirus. It also may think
that your antivirus needs updating.

Well, I have already installed Norton Internet Security and it runs so far
very good. So, I don't want to use the WinXP Firewall and I disable it.

However, everytime I start my computer, it always show the warning on the
task bar. Any method to disable the warning?

I don't want to set the firewall rules again!

You can't make it a hidden tray icon (right-click on taskbar,
Properties, "Hide inactive icons" enabled and Customize to select that
icon as Always Hide)?

I think that there is an option that lets you manage your firewall yourself
when you turn your XP firewall off. You can use this option when Windows
doesn't see your firewall or its state. While that doesn't completely make
the Security Center happy, I think it makes the system tray icon go away.
Look for that.

Open up the Security Center and look on the left hand side for something
like "Change the way Security Center alerts me." If you uncheck all 3 boxes
(Firewall, AV, Auto-Update), the security center icon will go away.

I just tried it. You only need to uncheck the box for Automatic Updates to
get rid of the Security Center icon.

Eric--

Another way to is just to turn it off and save CPU by going to Services and
keeping it from starting. If you take the check out of the box, you won't
see it, but it according to "Security Center Help and Support"

When you turn off Security Center alerts, the Security Center continues to
check and display status in the Security Center.

If your computer is part of a domain (a group of computers on a network),
your security settings are typically managed by your network administrator.
In this case, the Security Center does not display your security status or
send alerts.

How many people who know they have a software firewall and an antivirus
program need it to do anything for them? They're going to be checking their
AV to make sure something like Norton's Autoprotect is on, and updating
their definitions and configuring or at least turning on their firewall
without it.

Easy to do. Just open security center from control panel. For firewall
and antivirus if you have 3rd party apps installed click on the
recommendations button under each and tick mark appropriately, or to to
the left column and choose "Change the way Security Center Alerts me".
