What you should have done, is open Messenger>Tools>Options>General>Untick it
from starting when windows starts from there.
I haven't used Messenger for awhile but recall it had that option and
why I suggested it.
Often it is better to configure the option, when available, to not load
on Windows startup rather than to disable items using msconfig. Why?
Because msconfig simply hides the items (it doesn't delete them) by
moving them into a holding registry key that msconfig knows about and
which is not an autorun key. However, some programs will reconstitute
their Run registry key entry when they are executed. After all, you
didn't set its configuration option to not load it on startup so it is
obeying its configuration by replacing the missing Run registry key so
it will load on Windows startup. Disabling a startup program using
msconfig or editing the registry to remove the startup item might
survive only until the next time the application is executed which then
can see that it *is* configured to load on Windows startup, can sees its
startup entry is missing, and so it can restore that startup entry to
match its configuration.
