how to get past the "log to windows box"

during restart my laptop failed to reach the normal logon screen in windows
but stopped at a small window headed "log to windows". Since the laptop
belongs to my 8yr old g/son I do not know the owner password. Any ideas on
how to get past this? Thanks, I am a 72 yrold pensioner.

Ask your g/son. He (your g/son) may just have "mined" his PC & you'll
disappear in a puff of black smoke. :)

Restart the computer in safe mode with admininstartor a/c(if not password
protected) and then remove the passwod of the account.

steps to boot the computer in safe mode.


->Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer,
booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you
begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error"
message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

(it may take some time and you will see the multi disk screen)

click on admin a/c on logon screen

Once you reach to the desktop remove the password of the other a/c

steps to remove the password



Click on Start and then Control Panel.

Click on the User Accounts link.

Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, double-click on
the User Accounts icon.

In the pick an account to change area of the User Accounts window, click on
your user name(on which you want to remove the password).

Choose the Remove my password link.

In the text box on the next screen,

Click the Remove Password button to confirm that you'd like to remove your
account password.
You can now close the User Accounts window and the Control Panel window.

Now that your Windows XP account password has been deleted, you will no
longer need to log on to Windows XP when your computer starts.
