cannot log in on windows xp home

Hi,

After remove a malware I tried to log in on my laptop but after filling in
my password and clicking on the log in button... windows will log me out
automatically.

I did tried with suggestion on the net by using console recovery and try to
copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe but this didn't work for me.

Then I tried the suggestion from Article ID : 307545... in part one i
couldn't "copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system"
because couldn't find the file... but the other ones did copy.
so what I did is i copy the temp back "copy c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
c:\windows\system32\config\system"... and restart the comp.

When windows restart I will get this error before getting the log on screen
"When trying to update the password, this returns status that indicates that
the value provided as the current password is incorrect".

So I tried to enter the Recovery Console but when trying to log in i will
get and error saying that the password is incorrect. i have no password for
the administrator.

Can somebody help me...

Thanks in advance,
Eduardo.

You've probably corrupted the setup by copying some of the files mentioned
in the article. It doesn't always work as I have found out myself. You could
try copying the files back then try the recovery console again, but the best
thing would be a repair install or in place upgrade. See

best of luck

Hi,
Well I could say everything will be left in tact, but you know what they
always say "back up your files". I have used this routine in the past and
the files are still there but will probably be under a different folder,
even if you call the PC name the same & keep the same user name.
If you can't backup your files using a boot CD (knoppix is good) then you
will need to trust in Mr Gates. After the install look in the "documents and
settings" folder for the previous user personal files. Then you will need to
"take ownership" of the files and folders to allow you to copy them to the
new "my documents" folder.

best of luck
Neil
