How to get MSPP to use mp3 instead of wav in inserted snd. files?

How do I get PowerPoint 2003 to utilize mp3's rather than wav's when I insert
sound files into a presentation? The single waves require that I manually
advance the slide that the wav starts on and must be done at all four stages
of the presentation (136 slides of wedding pictures set to music), so I used
a Mac to put all of the files into a single audio file and turned it into a
CD, then I extracted the single track (132 MB) as a wav file and inserted it
at the first slide, now the sound will not play at all and it lags my
computer to the point of crashing and I believe that it is because of the
huge size of the audio file that I am using. So I would like to know if
there is a way to get MSPP to utilize mp3's instead, as that will allow me to
drastically reduce the size of the audio file and the presentation. Thanks
in advance for any help.

You can't. WAV files are the only ones you can insert, all others are
linked. You can however using a free utility called Cdex change the header
from your MP3 file to make look like is a WAV file See here.
