How to find out what programs are using other programs?

Hey,
I was downloading a demo off the net earlier and after about 10 mins
decided to cancel the download. The .exe file is still on my desktop
however and no matter what I do it won't be deleted. The error message
"cannot delete file because another person or program is using the file"
keeps coming up but i can't figure out what program is using it, please
help me get rid of this junk.

Hey thanks, dowloaded it and tried it but no luck Anyone have any
other ideas? I'm relly stumped and that damn icon on my desktop's really
starting to bother me.

Try booting into safe mode as the administrator and then deleting it.

Hey guys, finally got rid of the icons. I forgot to mention that there
were multiple instances of the file, and when i use the remove on reboot
i didn't realise it was only getting rid of one of the files. Just had
to reboot my pc a couple of times. Thanks for the help
