how to find My Network Places

I just got a new laptop with Vista on it.. and I can't find My Network
Places. It seems from reading the posts, it's there. I really need it to work
for my school--I use it to upload files to my webt account. Is it anywhere on
my computer? And if so, where is it? Thanks, Susan

Control Panel > Double click Personalization.
Under Tasks in the upper left corner, click "Change desktop icons"
In the Desktop Icon Settings dialog, place a check in the box by Network and
click OK.

Open Computer, and right-click an empty spot. Choose "Add a Network
Location". The Wizard can create a shortcut to your account in Computer.

Is your site an FTP site? In the Wizard, on the page where you type in your
address, click on "View examples" for valid address types. Does your web
space provider show you how to access the space? Can you access it with
Internet Explorer?

Sumer Yamaner.

I am having the same problem as susan, i wish to upload to my web server to
update my web site.

I have tried to add a network location by Open Computer, and right-click an
empty spot. Choose "Add a Network
Location". The Wizard does create a shortcut to my account in Computer,
however when i click on it it return "windows cannot access this folder. Make
sure you type the file name correctly and that you have permission to access
the folder. Details: A connection with server could not be established.

During this process if i click on anything on the screen it states programme
not responding & the screen grey's out.

"Your suggestion", do i upload the patch to my computer running vista or is
it to be installed by my server who i expect is still running XP.

I have check my ftp address which i can open on explorer but not in add
network.

A suggestion from another group has suggested the following, which i have
struggled with, but may be you will be able to help with.

Open MS Publisher- (Web Programme i am using)
create webpage
File - Save as Webpage
instead of going to Network places, type the name of your ftp server in the
filename box
ftp://your.domain.net
a ftp log on box opens
log on as user: xxxxxx
password: yyyyyyyy
ok
go to the directory you want to save to
enter the file name you wish to save, xxxxxxxxx.htm
save.

What ever i do creates a link but the links appear several times in computer
/ network x2 instead of one clear path to choose from to create the link.

Sorry for butting in but i am watching the response to this question closely
as at present i cannot make changes to my web site with vista.
Many thanks
