How to disable "Number Of Unread Mail Messages" in XP logon screen?

Hoping that someone here can give me some kind of tip on this. When I boot
XP I get a message on the logon screen stating how many unread email
messages are in Outlook Express. Strangely enough it doesn't list anything
about the email accounts in Outlook XP, which I also use for some email
accounts. I've routed around in the user settings and in the Outlook Express
settings but haven't found anything that looks like it would give you
control over this. I'd like to disable this notification at logon...any
ideas? Thanks all.

As you found it doesn't work for outlook, only outlook express, hotmail, and
aol with a helper program. And as you noticed it doesn't work very good.
Download and install tweakui for xp and use its repair mail count feature or
use it to turn the mail count off completely.

Or edit the registry and delete the mail accounts you don't want:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Hey Kelly, does that outlook counter still only count unread mail actually
downloaded into outlook? Or does it see what mail is on the mail server? I
tried one before, I think the same one, and it just told you how many email
where unread in outlook, not how many email you have waiting on thr server.
I've been looking for an app to tell me how many emails I have on the server
and display it on the welcome screen. Know of anything like this?

I'll keep looking. I find many email checkers, just none that work with the
welcome screen. Oh well, thanks.
