How to disable master browser

HI,

I just got 2 win2k computer disappear from our workgroup. WHen i try
to run "browstat status" on them I found they both become master
browser themselves. My guess that is the reason that it disappear from
the workgroup and they can only see themselves in the group. Ping is
fine both incoming and outgoing.

Now how do i change master browser setting? i remove the file-share ,
ms client from tcp/ip property and try to do "browstat announce
\device\problematic_computer_nic" but i got access deny (was doing it
from admin account). I can't get this 2 computer communicate with
others and vice versa , via the computer name (ip is fine).

Can someone help me out with this? We have no DC btw.

ps: most computers in my workgroup are win2k and a couple of winxp.

Any firewall software installed?
Netbios over tcp/ip enabled?
Something shared on them?

If they have internet access are they virus and malware free?

This is usually caused by a firewall on one of the two computers.
Disable the browser by stopping and disabling the "Computer Browser"
service.
Right-click "My Computer", Manage, Services.
