Hi there,
I have in event viewer of an NT4 domain controller following error
message caused by a W2K Pro, laptop machine that thinks it is the master
browser of the domain.
event ID: 8003
source: rdr
type: error
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
Laptop that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport NetBT_E100B1. The master browser is stopping or an election is
being forced.
What can I do about it?
Thanks, Calin

There can be different reasons for this error. First verify that the
Windows 2000 laptop is not permited to be a master browser.

The Master Browser is set at the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\

IsDomainMaster

Possible settings for the value are:

True - Is the master browser
False - Is not the master browser
Auto: Resolve through browser elections (default)

Set it to False on the machine that you do not want taking the Master
Browser role.

Then read here:
