How to determine which HD you have?

I want to determine whether I have a serial hard drive or an ATA hard drive
without opening up my computer, also I want to determine whether my computer
has an ATA card even if it does not have an ATA hard drive. In the "Device
Manager" all it has under disk drives is "ST320810A" and the properties did
not give me any more information. And under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" it
has "Primary IDE Channel", "Secondary IDE Channel" and "SiS PCI IDE
Controller".

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

"ST" usually indicates a drive from Seagate (http://www.seagate.com/ ).

I don't see your stated model number there, however. Is the part number
correct?

You can try using the free version of SiSoft Sandra
(http://www.sisoftware.net/) to at least determine which mainboard is in
your system. The maker's web site may let you know whether your board has
SATA or not.

Good luck.

Is that drive number correct? Or might it be ST340810A? If the latter, then
your drive is a "40GB" Seagate standard parallel ATA-100 (UDMA5) S.M.A.R.T.
capable drive

Parameters (under XP) :
77545cyl
6heads
63sectors/track
512bytes/sector
LBA sectors 78165360
