How to demote Global Cataloge Server and how to promote a Global Cataloge Server

I am running a Windows 2000 base LAN. My Global Cataloge
Server is partially damaged. I want to reinstall Windows
2000 on it. I also have two other domain controller on my
network.
Pls tell me the process how to demote my present Global
cataloge server and how can i Promote my other DC.

To "demote" GC, just go into AD Sites and services, locate your server and
under NTDS properties clear GC checkbox. To demote your DC, just run dcpromo
to remove AD from your server. Prior to that you could check if your server
holds any FSMO roles (netdom query fsmo) and transfer them to another server
first.

The intial reponse is correct, but ensure that you do have another DC to
transfer the GC role to. In fact, if this is the first DC you may have to
transfer all of the roles to another DC as the first DC in a domain takes on
all roles until explicitly specified.

Kinda reminds of Exch 5.5.....
