How to deactivate

I bought Office XP for students and teachers for
college. I installed it on to my PC at home and
activated it. Just recently I bought a laptop for school
and installed it onto my new laptop. After using it for
alittle while the program froze and every time I tried to
press a key a caption came up on the bottom of my screen
saying; 'This command is not available because the
document is locked for edit.' I tried everything
possible and then I discovered that I needed to activate
it on my laptop, but it wouldn't let me because it was
already activated on my other computer at home. I need
to have this progam on my laptop for school. Is there
some way that you can help me?

According to
http://www.microsoft.com/office/forstudents/default.asp#license, "You may
install this product on only one computer. If you have more than one
computer, you are required to purchase a separate product license for each."
If you are wanting to uninstall and deactivate the product on your home
computer and activate it on the laptop, you can probably do this by phone.

Hi Lindsay,

MS doesn't have a 'deactivation' procedure for
the Office software, but you can, as Suzanne mentioned
uninstall it from one PC then install it on a new PC
and then use the telephone activation method on the
new PC to speak to a MS technician to have the activation
transferred.

MS Office 2003 Student and Teacher's Edition will support
a 'family license' where you may be able to install on
up to 3 computers.

If you purchase Office XP/2002 between 15Aug & 30 Nov 2003
then you can upgrade to Office 2003 for the cost of
shipping and handling.

If you purchased Office XP Student & Teacher's Edition
prior to 15Aug2003 it's not upgradable but the Office 2003
Student & Teacher's Edition will be again a good value
