How to change what styles show in table of contents

Hi there
I have a 70 page project which uses the styles
"Heading 1"
"Heading 2"
"Heading 3"
and then, for figure captions "Figure"
for tables captions "Figures and tables"
the rest is mostly "Normal"
My problem now is that all the figure and table captions show up in my table
of contents and makes it look very messy.

Can someone please tell me how to solve this problem?

(It would be a LOT of work to go change each caption style individually)

Thanks a lot in advance!

It seems as if the table of contents is picking up outline levels (Paragraph
dialog box) in addition to heading styles. To fix that, press Alt+F9 to show
field codes. The TOC field looks something like this: { TOC \o "1-3" \h
\u }. Delete the \u switch and update the TOC.

The reason for the above issue is usually the Document Map. For more, see
the article at http://word.mvps.org/faqs/general/DocumentMap.htm.
