How to change appearance of cursor in Word 2003?

My cursor in Word 2003 has mysteriously changed size and shape. I want the
old cursor back! No resource talks about changing or restoring the cursor,
in any way.
Clues?
 
Has the cursor only changed in Word or in anything you do?
