How to append/search files in folder tree

I want append and/or search all files in a directory/folder tree.

Is there an easy way to do that.

I can't get the search function on the start menu to do a directory
tree.

Sure you can, just pick "Browse" under "look in".

Now I see my real problem.

I want to search for a word or phase in the file.

But when I try that, it only seaches the file name, not the file
contents.

Have you tried putting the search string in quotes?
