How set W Explorer to always show "details view"?

Is there a way to set Windows Explorer to show folders and files in
"details view", and without having to do so for each single folder?

I actually did that in the beginning, after I first installed XP Pro,
but the problem is that it doesn't seem to stick to most of the folders.
When looking at a folder and its files I can set it to show "details
view" and it does that right then and there. After I have closed the
folder though and go back to it many times it has reverted to a
different view style.

I'd appreciate any help in this matter.

Monica, see if this will work for you. Double click on My Computer on the
desktop, go to Tools>Folder Options. Set the folder the way you want it to
be. Click on the Button that says "Apply to all folders". Have you done
this?

But which of these gets rid of those pesky folder icons? All I want is a
simple, one line entry for each file... without an icon..

Choose details in the list.

Icons are a way of life.

Choosing details does not remove icons, they are visual clues to the type of file.

Nor, thank you so much for your suggestion, it worked. I chose to go for
the "Details view" and set it to "Apply to all folders". After I did
that I set all my picture folders one by one to show "Miniatures". Would
there have been an easier way of doing that?
