Windows Explorer View insists on Icons, not Details

G

Guest

Help ... Explorer always opens with Icons in every view!

I choose to View Details, not Icons, then I choose Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders and then OK. Next time I open Explorer
(whether before or after closing window, before or after restarting computer)
every folder opens with Icons!

This has been consistently so for a few weeks but was not always. I have
searched for renegade programs or settings but with no luck.

I would appreciate advice please. The problem is relatively unimportant but
very frustrating.

The Default for Windows XP is to remember the view settings for the 400
most recently used folders (SP2 is 5000). This regedit changes the settings
to 8000. To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double
click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in
Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Thanks for your advice which clearly should have worked but unfortunately has
made no difference (HKey edit worked, I rebooted but I still get icons all
the time).

Thanks again for your help. I've now loaded and run File-Ex without success.
The MS link just confirms the basic instructions which my Explorer continues
to ignore. I must be getting interference from another program or bug? Is
there somewhere I can look or something I can re-set?

Not sure ... in practice it doesn't matter whether I set all windows to view
details before I exit or not, explorer opens with icons.

I opened up "Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)" and found:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"SystemTray"="SysTray.Exe"

My regedit shows REG_DWORD, 0x00000000(0) in the first location and has no
SystemTray entry in the second location but shows (Default), (value not set);
ATIPTA; ccApp; NvCplDaemon; vptray.

Does this help? (Thanks again for your help ... feel free to abandon my
problem whenever)
