Maybe you're getting confused between two dif things.
I thought FOLDER/VIEW DETAILS referred to the information down the left side
if the explorer window & contain info once you mouseover or highlight a file
or folder as well as options avail to do.
That is a completly different setting & I have it set to Tips & clicking
[Folders] on the tool bar togels it to show Directory view.
I suspect you are more concerned with the option once you open a folder to
VIEW/DETAILS?
That is what I said. To explain my problem in more detail,
I started out by going to Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View,
Which says:
Folder views, You can apply the view (such as Details or Tiles) that you
are using for this folder to all folders. There are 2 buttons:
[Apply to all folders] [Reset All Folders].
Control Panel is set to Details & I clicked the [Apply to all folders]
button, but the next time I Restart the computer or open a folder it is
set to Icons or Tiles.
I also have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked.
Even after setting a folders View to Details going to Tools>Folder
Options & clicking [Apply to all folders] on any folder doesn't stick.
The only Folder Views I ever use or want to use are Details or
Thumbnails & I don't use Thumbnails very often.
