How much free space should you maintain within XP

How much free space should you maintain within XP to make things run
smoothly? is 10% of my drive enough? (5gb of 50gb)
 
My system starts to act up between 1 and 2 gig of free space. I do a lot of
video editing etc so I need a fair amount of room.
 
Hi,

The defrag utility needs 15% free space to function properly. You should
also allow for pagefile expansion.
