Dear, Freinds!
Please clarify my situation: I have Compaq Presario 2700 EA, with two USB
ports, but if I go to Device Manager in
Universal Serial Bus controllers I have
Standard Universal PCI to USB Host controller
Standard Universal PCI to USB Host controller
Standard Universal PCI to USB Host controller
USB root hub
USB root hub
USB root hub

The question is: Why I have 3 items Standard Universal PCI to USB Host
controller & 3 items USB root hub in spite of 2 USB ports?

Installed Win XP Home + SP1

Should only be one of each. Try removing all of them then
reboot it should redetect.

Don't give advise. The entries will vary as per the motherboard, whether or
not you have an add-in card, whether or not you have an external hub etc.

I have 13 entries under USB and my computer is working fine.

I agree with you. I have eight items under USB and everything is working
fine.

Leave it alone! DO NOT remove anything from device manager per the
advice you received from previous posts. Your USB device has three
connections: two external, one internal. (The internal connection may
or man not be usable.) That's the reason you see three listings for
the controller and the root hub.

The mobo probably has a set of internal header pins which
would allow you to install a front panel port.

Each of those ports will be an independent entity, with its own
controller and root. And many motherboards also have a further
controller that you can connect up by a cable - eg to a panel at the
front of the case
