How get rid of background color with desktop icons?

How do I remove the background with desktop icon titles so that only the
icon and the title are displayed. In other words, I prefer not to have the
colored background with the icon title.

I'm running Win XP Pro.

Hi,

Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on performance settings. On the
Visual Settings tab, enable "use drop shadows....".

My computer does not respond to changes in settings that should affect this.
I had my settings the same way for two months or longer prior to this
problem, and this was with a transparent background. The way I had
performance settings set was Custom, with a few items unchecked.

A few days ago, the transparency stopped, meaning the colored background
started showing, and this changed without me actually changing any setting.
Now, my desktop icons appear the same, i.e., with the background showing,
whether I have "use drop shadows...." enabled or disabled.

I wonder if something in my Registry is corrupted.

I've finally resolved this. I read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305117, which gave me a clue; it says, "... this problem may occur if you have a background item or desktop item that uses a transparent image or an animated GIF image". Last week, I did some copying of an animated .gif file from an email to other programs on my computer, and I may have actually had it saved to me desktop at one point.
I opened Display Properties, selected Desktop, clicked Customize Desktop, and selected the Web tab. I saw a link to the animated file I had worked with in the box for "Web pages". I deleted it; problem solved!
