Desktop icon background query

On a WinXP desktop, the titles below icons blend into the chosen desktop
picture and don't spoil it i.e. the picture IS the background.

On my work PC with Win 2000 (no choice), the titles are in a text block with
the Windows desktop colour as background and no matter how I try to tweak
the colour these blocks spoil my desktop picture.

Is there any way to make the desktop icon title background with Win 2000
disappear as on the WinXP desktop? Both 'schemes' are 'Windows classic'.
