How does 9800 Pro compare with modern cards?

"Happily play" current modern games? Let's see you play Doom3 on high
detail, 2xAA, 8xAF @ 1024x768. It'll be a hiccupping slide-show. I can
hardly wait to see how Fear and/or Stalker are going to play on my 9800 Pro.
640x480 anyone?

You exaggerate. I only recently switched from an Radeon 8500LE because 2
or 3 recent games forced me to run at 640x480. The idea that a 9800 Pro is
"old tech" merely demonstrates you as something of a techo-victim.

Of course if you judge how well a game plays in terms of which options
you can check...

I play Doom3 and RoE with absolutely no problems at 1024x768 on high
detail (which enables 8xAA), but I don't have 2xAA enabled.

Far Cry, Half Life2, Chronicles of Riddick, Battlefield 2 (Demo),
Brothers in Arms etc. all play fine at 1024x768 with high detail (with
half life 2 you can also enable 4xAA as well but thats the exception really)

Try disabling the AA in Doom3

Taking a moment's reflection, Doug mused:

Other than the 2xAA, I played through Doom3 with those settings and
it played great.

(I would be interested to find out how the ebuyer service is in terms of
delivering the right product on time)

Scheduled to arrive Thursday. Arrived Thursday (3.30pm). Received regular
e-mail updates. Online parcel tracking let me know where the package was at
all times. No complaints whatsoever. So far, so good with Ebuyer.
