How do you resize a shape in PowerPoint?

When I insert a shape in PowerPoint 2007, if I let it go, I can't change the
size or shape afterwards. You used to be able to pull on a corner or a side.
Now when I do that it "snaps" to a shape completely different then what I
started with or what I wanted.

You should still be able to pull a corner or side to resize the shape. It
sounds as if you are having trouble with the shapes snapping to other
shapes -- maybe because of the additional connectors that have been added to
most shapes. Maybe if you turn off Snap Objects to Other Objects on the grid
settings, that will help? To do so, go to Home | Arrange | Align | Grid
Settings.

Thanks for the suggestion but it turns out that the default setting for
shapes was set to "Text Box" This file was originally created in PPT2000 and
I was modifying it in 2007.
I went in and clicked "Do not Autofit" under "Text Box" in the "Format
Shape" menu and that fixed the problem.
Thanks again.
