Problems using shape handles to resize shapes

In PPT 07, I draw a shape and then grab a handle on the edge to stretch the
shape in one direction. Instead, when I let go the shape handle the entire
object resizes. All of the edges shrink to some pre-determined size with a
different aspect ratio. Subsequent moves of the shape handle fail to have
any effect; it just stays the same. What is happening? I just switched from
PPT 03 and never had this problem before.
