How do you rename printers under Windows XP Pro ?

I have just installed a Windows XP Pro PC onto a Network. When
installing the network printers, although they installed fine, you don't
seem to get an options to rename them. I have gone through each tab in
the printers properties, but to no avail.

This is a problem because macros have been set up in Word, which go and
look for a particular printer name. If the macros don't find the
printer they are looking for, an error will come up.

Any suggestions on "how to rename network printers" would be appreciated.

I am not sure about the relevance of whether it is USB, LPT, or
otherwise. I too have been having this issue.

If you create a printer in Windows 2000 or XP and make it point to a
network queue that sits on a network server, you cannot rename the
printer. In Windows 95/98/ME you can right-click on the printer name
in the Printer Control Panel and rename it to whatever you want.

Does anyone know how to rename such a NETWORK printer ?

map the network printer to a local port. Local printers can be renamed.
