How do I keep MS Outlook 2003 from continuously checking the exchange server
for messages

How do I keep MS Outlook 2003 from continuously checking the exchange
server for messages

Tools>Send/Receive>Send/Receive Settings>Define Send/Receive Groups.
Uncheck "Schedule an automatic send/receive"

That's what outlook and exchange are supposed to do. Set it to work
offline File, Offline.
