Outlook Connector - Error in Calendar

I am running Vista Home Premium, Outlook 2007, Outlook Connector on a
standalone laptop:
1. Outlook continually gives me a message "An Outlook data file did not
close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for errors".
2. I have read all the posts and run SCANPST.EXE on each of the files listed
by SCANPST.EXE (both .pst & .ost). I have checked add-ins and unchecked MS
Office SharePoint Server Colleague Import Add-in and MS Exchange Unified
Messaging. I did not uncheck my Trend Micro security add-in.
3. When I run SCANPST.EXE it finds errors in the Outlook Connector file and
I repair it. The next time I run Outlook I do not get the "data file did not
close properly" error message. The following time I run Outlook I get the
error message. Outlook is not running when I shut down my PC - this sequence
can occur during the same power-up session.
4. If I am positioned on my Outlook Connector Inbox there is a yellow
triangle with an exclamation mark over by the Server Status box. If I click
that it tells me "Error in Calendar Outlook Connector is available only to
subscribers.". I am an Outlook Connector subscriber and use it to get mail
from my Hotmail account downloaded into Outlook.

QUESTIONS:
1. Why do I keep getting the "file did not close properly" message and how
can it be fixed permanently?
2. Why is Outlook Connector giving the "Error in Calendar" message and how
can I find & fix the problem?

1. Why do I keep getting the "file did not close properly" message and how
can it be fixed permanently?

That's usually because Outlook did not close properly the time before and it
could be either that you're shutting down Windows without closing Outlook
first or something is keeping Outlook open. See this:
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/close.asp
2. Why is Outlook Connector giving the "Error in Calendar" message and how
can I find & fix the problem?

Are you paying for your Hotmail account? Do you have the Beta 12.1 version
of the Outlook Connector?

I UNDERSTAND THE "FAILURE TO CLOSE" PROBLEM, BUT THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. IF
I RUN TASK MANAGER I SEE OUTLOOK AND IT GOES AWAY WHEN I CLOSE IT. THEREFORE
I DO NOT THINK AN ADD-IN IS KEEPING OUTLOOK OPEN.

I DO NOT HAVE A "PAY" HOTMAIL ACCOUNT - IT IS THE FREEBIE VERSION. I
DOWNLOADED THE 12.1 BETA YESTERDAY AND IT SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE BETTER, BUT
NOT RESOLVED.

I DOUBLE CHECKED MY OUTLOOK VERSION AND FOUND THAT THE VERSION I DOWNLOADED
FROM THE BETA SITE YESTERDAY WAS 12.0.6407.1000. TO BE SURE I GOT VERSION
12.1 THAT YOU RECOMMENDED, I REMOVED OUTLOOK CONNECTOR AND REINSTALLED IT
FROM A NEW DOWNLOAD FROM THE BETA SITE. IT STILL SAYS VERSION 12.0.6407.1000.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE BETA DOCUMENTATION SAYS VER. 12.1 BUT THE DOWNLOAD
GIVES ME VER. 12.0.

AFTER UPDATING TO VERSION 12.0.6407.1000 I NO LONGER HAVE THE CALENDAR ERROR
MESSAGE ON THE BAR AT THE BOTTOM OF OUTLOOK - next to Server Status. I AM
STILL GETTING "DATA FILE DID NOT CLOSE PROPERLY" MESSAGES AND WHEN I SCAN
WITH SCANPST.EXE THE ERRORS ARE IN THE HOTMAIL.OST FILE.

DO THESE ISSUES GET PASSED ON TO MICROSOFT FOR RESOLUTION? MY ENTIRE CAREER
WAS IN CORPORATE IT AND WE COULD NEVER LEAVE BUGS HANGING LIKE THIS. I DO NOT
UNDERSTAND WHY MS DOES NOT FIX ANNOYING THINGS LIKE THIS AND IMPROVE THEIR
PRODUCT. THANKS FOR HELPING AND LISTENING.

Please don't use all caps. That's considered shouting. If the Hotmail OST
is giving problems, remove the Hotmail account, delete the OST, and readd
the account. Does that help?

This newsgroup is not a Microsoft support channel. Little anyone reports
here makes it to Microsoft. If you believe you have found a bug, check
http://support.microsoft.com/ for the "Contact Us" link and open a support
incident.

Sorry about the all caps. I understand the significance of caps, however
since these discussion groups do not allow you to use color, italics, other
fonts, bold, type sizes, etc. - I was trying to make it quick for you to spot
what I had added. I will try the delete/add process. Thanks
