How do you cleanup [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE]

I looked at my registry entry for the Enum key, and I found many
entries. Some of the entries refer to an ASUS cd-rom drive that is no
longer in the PC, and there are entries for obsolete firmware versions
for current drives. Is it possible that too many entries are causing
Msinfo32 to not report Cd-Rom information? Is there a way to clean up
and reduce the number of entries for this registry key? XP will not
permit me to delete any of the entries evern in Safe Mode.
