How do we lock files when in use from server?

HI! I use FP 2003 and want to be able to lock a file that is in use on a
remote server. how do we go about doing this? basically I don't want to open
I file that is already in use by another person overwriting info that the
he/she or me has made.

You would enable the check in / out function under Site Setting on the remote server.
