How do stop ie from launching when clicking on yahoo mail icon?

I use Firefox, not Internet Explorer, the majority of the time. I now
have a Yahoo Mail icon on my desktop. If I click on it, both Firefox
and Internet Explorer are launched. How do I prevent IE from
launching? I've searched for the file launch.internet explorer
browser and it is in an I386 folder. What is that folder and/or does
it have anything to do with preventing IE from launching? Thank you.

Hi,
Right click the Yahoo Icon and select Properties. On the properties you will
find an option for Open With and there is a button called change, click on
that and select the Fox from the list of Programs offered,. Make sure to
check the check box at the bottom for Always open with or something like that
to make the default browser for this Icon the Fox.
Another make the Fox your default Browser.
Enjoy it!.

I right clicked on the icon and selected properties. There are 3
choices: general, shortcut and compatibility. None have anything that
gives an option for "open with". My default browser is Fox. I am not
using Yahoo!Mail plus but the free email. Thanks and I'm still open
to suggestions.

Is it an Icon for an IE or Yahoo (Y)?.
What happen if you right click it and select Open with and from there you
can select the Fox and don't forget Always use the selected program to open
this kind of file check box.
What the entries under the general tab and the shortcut?.
can you give the path for the shortcut or the target [ C:\Program file...]
and the start in: [ C:\Program files... ]

The icon is for yahoo mail. It's target is C:\WINDOWS
\SYSTEM32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\Common\YMMAPI.dll,OpenURL
http://mail.yahoo.com/?.intl=us&.redir=ymmapi9

When I right click on the icon, under the shortcut tab there is an
option "start in" and the space is blank. No where is there an
option "open with". I know I use to see that under properties for
other programs, but that facility no longer exists on my computer
other than for files whose extensions are not recognized by the
programs installed on my computer. Under the general tab there is
nothing that can be altered and under compatibility it says that
compatibility can not be set because it is part of XP.

I have found a way around the problem by opening firefox first and
then click on the firefox icon where there is a choice to email with
yahoo. Thanks

The first method, right clicking on the file after opening in Windows
explore then clicking on properties, works with pictures, etc. I can
change the "open with", but in the Yahoo that's installed on my
computer, I cannot find any such options. I will pursue the other
methods suggeste with the openwithadd utility. In the meantime, I
installed the yahoo toolbar on Firefox and found that clicking on the
mail icon on the toolbar will get me to their web page. Thank you for
your help, and I will look into the downloads.

Change your default browser in the Add/Remove programs in the Control panel.

In Add/Remove Program click Set Program Access and Defaults (left pane)
Now choose a configuration on right pane. There are four choices: Computer
Manufacturer, Microsoft Windows (could be your default), Non-Microsoft and
Custom. Click on Custom to choose it, under Choose a default web browser:
Click on Mozilla Firefox.
