How do I view all installed fonts in MS applications?

I have installed 22 fonts in the Univers typeface family. However, only 7 of
these fonts appear in any of my applications (including Word and Flash).
According to Macromedia support, Microsoft XP is set to not display font
variants that are BOLD and ITALIC versions of other installed fonts, and sure
enough, the 15 fonts that do not appear are all BOLD and ITALIC variants.
(Except for Univers Medium, which doesn't appear in any variant in any
application.) This happens in both of my Windows XP SP 2 machines: One a
Sony Vaio, the second a Dell Optiplex.

But for the work I'm doing in Flash, I must have all 22 of the actual
installed fonts. Is there any way I can change XP to allow all 22 to be
displayed in Flash?

If you mean Microsoft Office XP, the font variants are not listed because
they are selected from within the application. In Word, for example, the
toolbar has a Bold and Italic icon which will automatically used the
corresponding installed variant of the font {or you can select from Format,
Font}. I am not familiar with Flash, suggest you check for a similar
feature.

That's not it. In Word, for example, if I want to change a style's font to
be Univers 45 Light Italic, I cannot do that--even if I first select
"italics." Again, in Word, if I select "Format-->Font" and then first click
"Italic", the list of fonts does not change to then display the Italic
variants of the fonts.

The key is that I must have the actual original installed italic font, NOT
the roman font that is then altered by italicizing within the application.
Doing that in Word seems to work fine, but in more sophisticated graphics
applications, italicizing within the application ends up looking different
than the actual installed italic font.

I hope that clarifies my issue and please let me know if you can help.

I just realized that my last email probably made it sound like I didn't
understand your reply. Yes, I understand what you're saying, that selecting
italics with Univers 45, for example, causes Word to automatically use the
Univers 45 italics font. And yes, you can italicize any font within Flash,
too.

But I still have the problem. Let me give some more detail. A web
developer developed my web site in Flash on a Mac, using the 22 Univers
fonts. When I first open that web site in Flash on my PC, it says "One more
or more fonts used by this file are not available. " All of the unavailable
fonts are bold and italics. You are then given an opportunity to choose
substitute fonts for each of them. When I attempt to select a substitute by
popping up the list of available fonts, the bold and italic installed fonts
do not appear in that list.

I need for that list of fonts to display all bold and italics variants,
otherwise Flash will convert them all to the roman versions. (Perhaps this
is due to a difference in the way the Mac and PC handle fonts?)

Thank you again for responding so quickly!

I do not know how the Mac handles fonts. I did do a Google search for:
Univers fonts and Google returned Linotype as the source. Linotype lists a
number for font formats including TT for Windows and TT for Mac as well as a
format that can be used by either.

There are Mac users on the group that may be able to help you.

You may want to post your problem to
microsoft.public.word.application.errors or the Publisher newsgroup. You
can find a list of Microsoft Public newsgroups here:
http://aumha.org/nntp.php . The site will also configure your newsreader
{Outlook Express or other} to access newsgroups vice using the web
interface.
