How do I use my front page website I built using Angelfire Accoun

G

Guest

I Built a Website using Microsoft Front Page and I already have an Angelfire
aacount website. I want to replace my new Msoft F.P. website with the one I
have in Angel Fire. On one part of Angelfire FAQ I found this: however It
didn't help at all.

Can I use Microsoft FrontPage to build a site on Angelfire?

Yes. However, you do need to follow some special instructions to Publish
your FrontPage webs to your Angelfire account.

First of all, you'll need to "enable" your Angelfire account for the
FrontPage extensions. To enable your directory for the use of Microsoft
FrontPage, head to your "Website Details" page, within your "My Account" page.

After you enable your site, you will be given instructions on how to publish
your page.

You want to replace your NEW website that you built with FP with your OLDER
one you built on Angelfire?

If so...and IF you enabled the FP extensions on your Angelfire account per
their instructions..you would Open your Angelfire website directly with FP.
Open Site / http://yourangelfirepublishingaccountname , the Publish it back
to your harddrive, to a location and name you can specify. You may want to
publish to a different named FP website on your harddrive rather then
overwrite your existing NEW web though.

Rob,
Thank you for all your help. After I FP enable I was never given any
instructions and that is why i can do anything, I am not to familiar with all
these programs and don't now how to do extensions and so on, however I
managed to built the website with FP by following the instructions on the
program. Is there a place where I can learn to do this so I don't have to
bother anyone ? ; ) Thanks again!

Hang out here for a while. We are here to be bothered :)

Seriously, take one step at a time...detail what you are trying to do and
exactly what kind of problems/errors you are recieving.

Look back to Sunday night or Monday and look for a post by Tina Clarke, she
posts a list of resources every week.

Now...are you trying to get your Angelfire web down to your machine or
trying to get your new FP designed web up to Angelfire?

:)

Rob,
Since I'm done with my FP website all I'm trying to do is to get my new FP
designed web up to Angelfire.
Thanks

Angelfire hmmm...welp give this a shot...

Open FP
File | Open Web/Site
type in http://www.yourweb.com (whatever it is)
you'll be prompted for your un/pw
IF your FP extensions are installed and working your website will open in
FP...this is your "live website"
Now...
File | Publish
this time you will browse or enter the C:\ location on your hardrive where
you store your webs (if you're working with a disk-based web) ...or it will
be http://localhost/nameofyour web if you are running a server with FP2003.

The name you name your web on your hd should not have an extension (.com,
..biz, .net) BUT it can be any name you want; Fred, Wilma, barney...anything.

You may be prompted to create a web there...let it.

Angelfire's cheap web packages will also load a lot of other misc. junk
(ads, etc) that you can't remove.

Once you have it on your hardrive you will/should work on the local copy and
Publish up to your server.

easy.

Hello Rob,
Just wanted to say..THANK YOU for all your help yesterday. I manage to
transfer everything and finish my website, thanks to you!!. I'll include my
link so you can go visit. Let me now if I did an OK job. I'm new at this so
my website is not too impresive : )

Most excellent!...glad I could help!....I love cake, especially with lotsa
sugar :)

Two things:

Get a copy of IrFanview (its free) and use it to optimize your images...a
300K image can easily be resized to about 15-20k and you'll not notice a
difference yet your pages will load faster.

Lose the music! (sorry) most people run when they hear music on the website
they are visiting.

Happy trails!

Robo

I'm glad you liked it, and by the way I do have IrFanview but i totally
forgot to resize the pictures, I will do that soon and also follow your
advise on the music : )
again...THANK YOU!!!!

No prob.

If you optimize and use the same file name...re-import the image that is
optimized and let it overwrite the old one...but also you will need to
delete the placed image and replace it with the new optimized image that was
optimized.

Doesn't hurt to do a Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks after you do the above.

Have fun.
