A co-worker just recently started getting that dialog box. I've tried to
look it up using Google, Microsoft's website and other sources and haven't
even found anything called the new message of interest. How do I turn this
off without turning off the regular new email notifications?

Where do you see this?
Which version of Outlook are you using?
Which mail account type are you using?

Posting a screenshot might be quite helpful in this case. Post it somewhere
on the web and provide a hyperlink to it in your reply so we can find it :-)

Ah, yes, sorry. I probably should have provided more info, I should know
better. It's outlook 2003 using an exchange server. I don't have a
screenshot of it because it only came up that once so far. But it showed a
list of, what she thought, was all her unread email. She had been gone for 3
weeks and had over 300 emails. But it could have been only emails from a
certain mail box since we have multiple inboxes for some people. I checked
the rules & alerts and email options but haven't found anything in there that
would tell me why she's getting that dialog box.

I was thinking it was the New Items Alert window, but that requires a rule.
See the last screenshot at the bottom of this page;

Is that what she saw? Note that the text you'll see in that dialog is a
variable and thus might have been different for her.

Otherwise, take a look at which add-ins she has installed.

I'm 99% sure that was the box that popped up. I didn't see anything in the
installed add-ins though. It hasn't happened since so it isn't terribly
important, more of a curiosity I suppose.
