I have an XP machine that is only a few months old. It has a bug that
nothing has been able to get rid of.
I'd liek to just start clean and reinstall the oprating system.
Will this kill the bug?

Is there a link to step by step instructions I can use to do this>

Thanks,
jo

If you want to be absolutely sure that the "bug" is off your computer, you
will need to do a clean install. This means permanently erasing your hard
disk and reinstalling everything from scratch. You will lose whatever you
have not backed up. Are you sure you want to do this?

If so, the easiest way to proceed - after you have backed up what you want
to keep - is to find out if your computer came with a recovery partition. If
so, ask the computer manufacturer how to use it. Otherwise, you will have to
reinstall everything manually, and then update all your software and set up
your computer all over again.

click on the start button then go to accessories & then
click & open the command prompt & type: chkdsk /f
then press enter & then answer the question with 'y'
for yes then reboot your computer.

also if your internet works use your Norton anti-virus
check, do a live update.

also can't he use his live update to download
his security patches & other features to help?

I know that running a regular virus scan will not
get rid of viruses from the internet it will
just scan your main files & folders & main
boot records that came with your computer &
if it finds anything it says that it will be
best if you quarrintine it. then again you may
want to do a debug sequence.
