How do I see incoming messages in more than 1 email account?

Brand new Outlook 2003 user using Windows XP so please excuse what may be a
dumb question.

My wife and I have different email addresses that use the same account (i.e.
the logon information in the Internet Email settings (POP3) dialog box is the
same.). The settgins as far as I can see for both send & receive are for all
accounts.

My wife logged onto Outlook using her profile in Windows XP and downloaded
mail (that was actually addressed to my email address). I would like to see
the mail but cannot get it to appear in my inbox when I log onto Outlook thru
my profile. Windows keeps telling me I have unread messages (i.e. the
messages that my wife can see but I cannot) but will not download them when I
send/receive

What can I do?

Outlook doesn't deal well with multiple user's mail that stored in a single
POP3 mailbox. You usually end up having one user downloading all the mail in
that mailbox

That's because the default action of most POP clients is to download the
messages and then delete them from the server. If you connect after your
wife has, her Outlook grabbed the mesasges and deleted them so there are
none there for you. Likewise, if you were to connect first, you'll download
and delete hers and they're be nothing there for her when she connects.
What can I do?

You can both enable the option to leave copies on the server so that you'll
both see all incoming messages and then use rules to delete anything from
your Inbox that's addressed to her and she can do the equivalent on her PC.

Alternatively, you can speak to your ISP about getting truly separate
addresses.
