How do I redirect email to another account?

Guest

I want to redirect (not forward) my email to another account that I have so
that all of my email comes to one address. However, when I followed the
instructions for creating a rule, I ran into a problem. While the description
online indicates that there is a rule for redirecting, I only found a rule in
the wizard for forwarding messages. Any insights on how to redirect?

See your ISP for that account to redirect mail at the server level - that is
the only place that can forward your mail before receipt.

So what is being referred to in the online instructions? Why cannot I click
to create a rule for redirecting? If it has to be done at the server level,
then I guess I'll have to leave it at that, but just curious...

Thanks,
Jake

Use this method if you don't want recipients of the redirected messages to
know that they were delivered by way of your Inbox.

Note The following steps explain how to create and apply a rule (rule: One
or more automatic actions taken on e-mail messages and meeting requests that
meet certain conditions, along with any exceptions to those conditions. Rules
are also referred to as filters.) to your Inbox or one of your private
folders. To create a rule for a public folder, you must do so from the
folder's Properties dialog box.

1. In Mail, in the Navigation Pane (Navigation Pane: The column on the
left side of the Outlook window that includes panes such as Shortcuts or Mail
and the shortcuts or folders within each pane. Click a folder to show the
items in the folder.), on the Tools menu, click Rules and Alerts.
2. If you have more than one e-mail account (e-mail account: The server
name, user name, password, and e-mail address used by Outlook to connect to
an e-mail service. You create the e-mail account in Outlook by using
information provided by your administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).) in your Outlook e-mail profile (Outlook e-mail profile: A profile is
what Outlook uses to remember the e-mail accounts and the settings that tell
Outlook where your e-mail is stored.), in the Apply changes to this folder
list, click the Inbox to which you want the rule to apply.
3. Click New Rule.
4. Click Start from a blank rule, and then click Next.
5. Under Step 1: Select when messages should be checked, click Check
messages when they arrive, and then click Next.
6. Under Step 1: Select condition(s), select the check box next to each
condition that you want the incoming message to match.
7. Under Step 2: Edit the rule description, click the underlined value
that corresponds to the condition, and then select or type the necessary
information.

ShowExample: Redirect each incoming message whose subject contains the
words "Contoso Pharmaceuticals"
1. Under Step 1: Select condition(s), select the with specific
words in the subject check box.
2. Under Step 2: Edit the rule description, click specific words.
3. In the Search Text dialog box, type Contoso Pharmaceuticals in
the Specify words box, click Add, and then click OK.
8. Click Next.
9. Under Step 1: Select action(s), select the redirect it to people or
distribution list check box.
10. Under Step 2: Edit the rule description, click people or distribution
list.
11. In one of the address lists, double-click the name or distribution
list to which you want to redirect the messages, and then click OK.
12. Click Next twice.
13. Under Step 1: Specify a name for this rule, type a name.

To run this rule on the messages that are already in your folders,
select the Run this rule now on messages already in "folder" check box.

To apply this rule to all your e-mail accounts and Inboxes, select the
Create this rule on all accounts check box.
14. Click Finish.

Does anyone have an answer for this? Microsoft Outlook 2003's help area
gives instructions on how to redirect emails to an outside email address,
however, the Rules and Alerts area does not offer redirection as an option.
I would like to have all emails to all accounts redirected (while keeping a
copy on my Outlook at the original "to" address) so that I have all emails on
a single, online web server. As it stands, Outlook only allows the option to
forward emails, but then on my web server, it only lists the emails as from
me.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think Outlook alone will redirect mail (unless there's some VBScript
that can do it). I believe you need Exchange to do the redirection.

Great question "balance 1977"! I want to do the same thing using Outlook
2003, and also wonder why Microsoft tells you how to do it, but their
explanation contains an unavailable element, namely the "redirect to" prompt
in the dialogue box.

HOW ABOUT A MICROSOFT MODERATOR JUMPING INTO THIS THREAD!!!!!!!

Well, I've found plenty of evidence this weekend that indicates the Redirect
action in the Rules Wizard is a function of using Exchange as the delivery
location. Outlook 2000, 2002, and 2003 all have that rule action when
Exchange is the delivery location and they do not have it for a POP account
PST as the delivery location.

Ask your IT people at work what they allow.

Go to your Email accounts settings. In the "Internet Email Settings (POP3)
window, click on the "More Settings" button. This will bring up another
window with 4 tabs - General / Outgoing Server / Connection / Advanced.

Click on "Advanced" and you will see information on the server port numbers
etc. Don't touch those. Look down the window and you will have "Delivery"
with 3 options - Leave a copy of messages on the server". Clicking on this,
you are giving instructions for the messages to remain on the email server
until you choose to remove/delete them. You will then have further options of
'Removing the messages from the server after X days" and "Remove (the
messages) from the (email) server when you the messages are deleted from your
"Deleted Items" folder.

YOu then setup your home computer with the necessary POP3 information of
your office account to receive mail that comes through your office email
server.
This way you'll get ALL the mail that is received in the office, at your
home computer as well.

But as someone had said, check with your office administrator that you are
even allowed to do this due to the confidentiality clauses in place. So do
take care on this matter.
