How Do I Re-Enable Java on My Computer ??

[Internet Dummy - Help Please ?!]

I just got a computer and am CLUELESS ... Somehow, while
I was trying to make my computer hide the history and
limit cookies, and heighten privacy stuff, I must have
disenabled java, because now my IMs won't work because of
java... How do I fix it ?? Thanks, I know it's a dumb
question...
