w2k SP4 IE5 and Java applets

On my w2k SP2 I have been using IE5 to display a precentation which is made
in HTML using Java Applets.
On w2k SP4 installation on another computer an attempt to view such a page
resilts in a message that the security setings do not allow using ActiveX.
After ignoring this message, for every applet on a page it thows a box
saying that the object does not have a security signature and asking whether
to install it or no (I give a loose wording because the OS in question is a
Russified version of w2k and all the system messages come in Russian).
Selecting "install" displayes the page with empty boxes in places of the
applets.

I did not update IE5 to IE6 because IE6 is said not to support Java Applets

How do I get round that?

First, IE 6 does support Java applets, but you would likely need to
get the latest Java distribution from Sun installed.

It sounds like all of the issues you have described are due to the
settings in IE, the prompt/allow/disable choices for signed/unsigned
scripts/activex/java, etc. These are all adjustable on a per-zone
basis in the Security tab within IE's Internet Options.

Thanks, Roger.
I changed settings in Security tab as you advised. Now no warning pop up,
but the applets are still displayed as empty boxes

Personally I like the warning popups and most often say NO.
You did not mention whether you do have JRE installed.
