How Do I Publsih Frmo FP to Local IIS?

G

Guest

I'm running Win XP Pro, IIS 5.1, & creating a web site w/FP 2003. FPSEs are installed (ver. 6.0.2.5516 (according to FP)). When I try to publish to a FrontPage remote site - http://computername, I get a message saying that it appears SharePoint services are not isntalled. So, I tried to publish to the FTP directory. It was successful but the files I published in the "back-end" (i.e. ftp://computername) are not served from the front end - http. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do publish my local websitee folder in My Documents into IIS' c:\inetpu\wwwroot?
(BTW - I've reformatted my system and reinstalled updates, drivers, & installed IIS & FP 2003 - so I believe I'm starting from a clean system).

BTW - in FP, Tools, Site Settings, for Server Verion, it says "no server currently in use" Don't know if that is significant here or not but htought I'd mention it. I can get to my "Under Construction" asp page that IIS serves as a default from any browser. I sure could use help as described above. Thanks.

Can you open the localhost in FP using File Open Site and entering http://computername/ or http://localhost/

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

Good question - I've a bad answer - no. I get a message saying that it
isn't accessible. The folder may be in an unavailable location, protected
with a password, or the filename contains a / or \. I have the three groups
set up - HCPC_Admins (HCPC is the name of my computer), HCPC_Authors, and
HCPC_Browsers. I'm logged on a a user configured as being a computer
administrator in the control panel. When I FTP to HCPC - it asks me for a
password - I get in fine & copy to ftproot. But I've not been able to get
to http://localhost nor http://HCPC. The only two things I changed in IIS
were to change the name of "Default Web Site" "RemoteDirector," and changed
the IP address to the local static IP I've assigned to my maching -
192.168.1.11. In the past I've gone in to IIS > properties for
RemoteDirector (Used to be Default Web Site) & then Directory Security -
I've changed the user from IUSR_HCPC to Administrator - but I've not done
this during this confounding round of troubleshooting. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tom - Thank you for the references. I must admit - the wealth of
information is very bewildering. I don't know where to start. I'm afraid
to do any registry work - I'm having a hard enough time trying to use
default win XP Pro, FP, IIS, & user groups. Wish there was a way to do a
NetMeeting type session so an expert and I can walk through settings on my
system and see where the fix needs to be. Any other suggestions on how to
narrow down where to start? Thanks.

Tom - Jimco failed. When I entered in the url for my web site "http://www.remotedirector.com", a Microsoft FP error message came bacK: "Server could not complete youur request. Contact your internet service provider or web adminsitrator (that's me unfortunately) to make sure that server has FPSE or SharePoint Services installed." In clicking on details, it says, "Error. The requested module could not be found."

When trying this, I'm logged on as a user that has computer administration priviledges ("Automation" ), and is listed in group "192.168.1.11 Admins." In IIS, Defualt Web Site (renamed to RemoteDirector), i executed check server extensions and it appeared to have tightened them up.

Any idea what's wrong and how to fix this?

Server not found at http://www.remotedirector.com/
- if that is your local host you can not name it w/ a .com unless you have a dedicated DNS and IP address

Yes, I have a static IP address and the registered remotedirector name. But even trying to publish to http://hcpc (hcpc is my computer's name), I was unsuccessful. I happened to come across a posting on 7/7 suggesting to install FPSE 2002 in response to someone's problem. I tried that and it quickly fixed my situation. I understand that FP2003 is supposed to work fine with FPSE2000, but there is something about the FPSE2002 package that cleanly and immediately allowed me to open my http://hcpc site and publish to it. Now, I just hope that when I install IISLockDown & URLScan that I don't introduce more problems since the ZoneAlarm firewall I had expected to use doesn't support server environments. Crossing my fingers.
