How do I get IIS without Windows XP Pro?

G

Guest

I have Office 2003 Pro, Frontpage 2003 Pro, Visual Studio.Net 2003 Enterprise
Architech, SQL Server 2000, Windows XP Home edition, but do not have one
product that allows me to use IIS. Without IIS, I cannot make a Web Server,
or use the FTP portion of FP. How do I get IIS 6.0 (or greater) so I can use
Frontpage to publish a web site?

Also..I cannot change the title of my site off of 'New Page 1'...I cannot
open the folder list while in FP.

In order to have IIS, you must have WinXP Pro, which comes with IIS 5.1

IIS 6.0 comes with Windows 2003 Server.

So...none of these other 'high end' software packages comes with IIS, or the
availability? Meaning that I can purchase Visual Studio.NET, Frontpage pro
and SQL Server, but can't use them to thier full extent at all without also
purchasing Win XP Pro?

T

IIS is a web server that comes with an operating system.
If you want IIS, you'll need the O/S it comes with.

I'm confused. I downloaded and installed IIS 5 on my last system running
Win2K Pro (not the server edition). How was I able to do that? I've since
changed plans and no longer have a need for that setup, but I did have it. I
don't recall if it was a "factory" download or if I got it somewhere else,
to be honest.

Windows 2000 Professional comes with IIS 5
Windows 2000 Server comes with IIS 5

Windows XP Professional comes with IIS5.1
Windows 2003 Server comes with IIS 6

Windows 2000 Workstation / Windows XP Home do not comes with IIS.

IIS is not available as a download from MS, if you downloaded it, it was not legal.

That's because both 2K "Pro" and XP "Pro" support IIS.
The home version of either OS does not.

You do not need IIS to publish a site to a remote server, using either http:// or FTP

You didn't 'download' it per se, you installed it from the Win2K Pro
installation disk. IIS 5.0 comes with Win2K Pro.

I do recall downloading it. Maybe I'm mistaken (that's been known to happen,
many times). I guess the original person's problem is XP Home.

Like I said in another reply, I thought I downloaded it The memory ain't
what it used to be, unfortunately. I used to have a photographic memory, now
I can't remember what I had for breakfast most of the time (and, I'm not
that old, yet.......)

IIS 5 is not available by download. It comes with the cd.
Yes, the other person stated he had XP Home.

I am currently being forced to use Cute FTP Pro. But since Frontpage isn't
able to 'publish', the links have to be hard coded, unlike auto when FP does
the FTP

Why are you being "forced" to use Cute FTP??

the FTP

I think you are doing something funky with your links. I use FP to
build IIS based and disk based webs. I publish using FP/http:// to FP
extended servers and non-extended servers. I publish using FTP from FP
to non-extended servers. I publish to using various FTP applications
to various other webs.

All my links work. The only time I have an issue is when someone else
has coded things with non-relative links - then I have to fix those
because they are wrong in general for any kind of web work.

Perhaps there is a better way for you to be using FP ?
