how do I open a file with an as$ extension?

I inadvertently did not save a Word file I was working on. It appears there
is a backup file ending in .as$ (based on the date and time stamp). Is this
a valid Word backup file, and how do I open it

AutoRecover files have an .asd extension. You can't open them explicitly;
Word opens them the next time you start. It's possible that the .as$ file is
a temp file created when the .asd file is opened.
