How do I make the Inbox display a total unread items count of all.

I created subfolders to the Inbox in order to sort my mail and the Inbox only
tallys unread items that are not moved to its subfolders. I don't want to
have to scroll through all folders to see if there are new items.

I don't think Outlook will let you do that. If you right click on the
inbox, then click on Properties you'll see that Outlook only gives you two
options for what kind of numbers it gives.
