How do I make recently used styles appear at the top of the list?

Sometimes about 8 of the most recently used styles list themselves at the top
of the styles and formatting drop-down window, which is very useful. But in
other documents they don't, which is very frustrating. How can I make them
appear for every document?

It depends on the display setting in the task pane (Available styles, Styles
in use, All styles) and how many styles there are. If there are a lot of
styles and you've scrolled to the bottom, you may not be aware that the most
recently used are at the top. But Word's display of this task pane
(especially how it scrolls it) is so inconsistent that I've given up trying
to figure it out.
