How do I increase the wait time when sending faxes

N

nobody

Hello,

Does anyone know how to increase the wait time when a fax is being
sent via the SBS Shared Fax server? The server dials and the the
phone rings on the other end, but then the fax server hangs up after 4
or 5 rings.

I usually run into this problem when people are sending faxes to
people at home who have a fax/answering machine combo on their regular
voice line.

Thanks for any help.

You can set the number of rings for automatic answering from the Properties
of the Fax printer. Right click on the Fax Printer and select properties.
From the tabs, select Devices. Select your device and then set the number of
rings after which the device should answer automatically.

This may help.
Open Device Manager -- My Computer > Right-click Manage > Device Manager >
Modem Properties > Advanced Tab > Change Default Preferences. On this dialog
there is a 'Cancel the call if not connected within' setting - increase the
time and try.

BTW does the send fail with 'No answer' error or something else?

I have an error that says "busy". This is because the
receiving number has a combination voice/fax where the
answering system is set up to answer the phone on the
fourth ring, then the fax machine should take over when it
detects that a fax is being sent. ((not sure how that
works)nor am I sure how many rings my microsoft fax service
will wait). It seems that the embedded Microsoft software
does not wait for the switch. So I get a "busy" response
whenever I send to that number. If I send FAX to a number
that is dedicated to FAX, is in the same area code, uses
the same dialing rules, it will succeed. How do I get past
the answering service?

I forgot to add that the recipient in previous message has
caller id and has stated that my fax number has never shown
up on that record. This indicates a dialing error. I have
watched the logging and the dial string appears to be
correct. I cannot imagine what other reason I would get
'busy'. Other attempts have resulted in "no answer". So I
think I am getting to the right place. Not sure.

I think this is more likely an issue at the destination site. Is the
destination site able to receive faxes from other sources?
