I cannot get text to play over a playing video. I got the text to appear
over the slide, but once the video plays the text disappears. Help please!

Without fairly costly add ins the video will ALWAYS be in front. So you cant
do what you want.

Either place the txt below the vid OR if you have the skill edit the video
to include the text.

Unfortunately you can't do this with Powerpoint alone. See
crystalgraphics.com or instanteffects.com for addins.

What the others said. Here's a list of add-ins that will do it.

OfficeFX http://www.instanteffects.com/
Chirag Dalal's add-ins
http://officeone.mvps.org/powershow/tips_text_over_video.html
Ovation
http://seriousmagic.com/products/presentations/ovation-for-powerpoint-templates.cfm
(I think this will do text on your video, anyway.)
CG PowerPlugs
http://www.crystalgraphics.com/PowerPoint/video.backgrounds.main.asp or
http://www.animationsforvideo.com/html/powerpoint__video_backgrounds.htm
(not sure what the difference between these two is).

I believe all of these have trial versions. As always, try before you buy to
make sure they'll do what you want.

If you really need text over the vid and you have windows xp with windows
movie maker installed its not that hard to get a text overlay. Use
tools>titles/headings "on the clip" and experiment a bit!
