I have replaced my cdrom with a cdrw.

I can only get it to work by using "send to" and then "write files to cd". The disk then becomes read only and is no longer writeable at all.

If I try to save from Word, I get a message telling me to contact an administrator.

I am a sole user on a stand-alone machine at home

I am running windows XP Service pack 2

on an AMD Athlon 1.58 GHZ with 256 MB of RAM

The CDRW is Liteon 52x24x52 IDE Internal CD-RW Drive - OEM

How can I get my CDRW drive to work more like a hard drive?

I'm going against my better judgment here, as I do not recomend you do this ... install Nero InCD.

Personally I would rather install a second HD. ;)

Nero's 'In-CD' which is part of most Nero Packages, will do just that, as Mucks pointed out.

It lets you see the CDRW as a hard disk and you can drag and drop files to it.

I've used it, it works, but as Mucks says it's much better to save to another hard disk then back up now and again filling up a CD-R or CDRW disk.
