How do I enable instant search in Outlook 2007?

Instant desktop search in the Trial Version of Outlook 2007 won't work. I
have Windows Desktop Search running on XP even though I didn't download it.
(?) In Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, there are no lines dealing
with searches at all. It does not seem to be enabled. How do I enable it? The
indexing is complete. When I start Outlook, there is no prompt to download
WDS.

DoesWindows Desktop Search 3.0 show in your installed software list in
Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs?

Try reinstalling it again;

I have all the items in Search Options checked. It contains nothing to
enable the search option. I still can't search for anything. George

Hi Roady -

I installed Windows Desktop Search and although it doesn't show up under
Add/Remove Programs, it does appear in Programs under Start. However, it
still won't work, even after I restart Outlook. It is still indexing - does
it have to finish indexing before it can search for anything? This is a tough
one to get going on XP.

Leave Outlook open overnight so it can index. Depending on the size of your
mailbox and other files it indexes his could take a while.

Does MVP stand for Most Valuable Player? :)

You're right! The indexing has finished and now it works. The instructions
need to say that it won't work until the indexing has finished.

Since I can't start a new thread (I click new and nothing happens), I will
ask you this new question. How can I downsize a large attachment to an
e-mail, such as a 3MB picture file, before I send an e-mail? The Comcast
server won't pass such large files. Outlook 2003 brought up an attachment
option that provided a means to reduce the files to 3 different sizes, or
leave them the same. Outlook 2007 has no such feature, and I am very
disappointed. George

Hi George,

Almost; MVP stands for Most Valuable Professional which is an award program
from Microsoft. For more info see;

What attach method do you use? Sounds like right click on a picture in
Explorer and then Send To-> Mail Recipient

I haven't tested it in Windows XP but I still get the pompt in Windows
Vista. Try reregistering the dll that controls this;
Start-> Run; regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Another approach would be to press the Attachment Options button once
attached. This button is located on the Message tab in the right bottom
corner of the Include sction.

Hi Roady -

No, I do an Insert File. But the little arrow at the bottom right of Include
does indeed pull up the section for resizing that automatically came up in
Outlook 2003. This is well hidden - it made sense to have it come up
automatically, but MS doesn't think so. Bravo and many thanks - you have
solved both my problems!

Installing this worked for me! Thanks. I have the trial version of Outlook
